FAQ

1) Can a Turkish coffee grind be obtained using ICMELC grinders?

Yes. For this application, we produce a different line of grinders that come equipped with rolls especially designed with the goal of achieving different grinding within the standards of Turkish coffee.

2) On average, how great is the reduction in production for grinders grinding within the Turkish coffee standards?

This data varies depending heavily on the desired granulometry, but we can say that the average decrease in the production capability of a given model of grinder is approximately 25% when compared to using the same equipment to achieve a ‘normal’ standard of grinding.

3) How is CO2 eliminated from the coffee during the roller grinding process?

When it goes through the grinder, the coffee beans are crushed completely by the pairs of rolls found at different stages of the grind, making for practically all of the CO2 contained in the roasted beans to be eliminated during the grinding process. This leads to several advantages such as the possibility for the ground coffee to be stored either in vacuum or conventional pillow packages immediately after it is ground without a risk for package swelling, making any de-gassing resting period unnecessary. The resting period is required for ground coffee whenever other grinding systems are used.

4) What is the average life span of the grinder grinding roll? How many times can they be refurbished?

A rolls life span can vary depending on the adjustment standards used, so we can only state that, independently from how it is installed, a grinder roll lasts, on average, for 12,000 working hours, although some have been reported to last 18,000 working hours or longer. The rolls are designed to be refurbished 3 to 6 times. The refurbishment variable exists because the parts in question are prone to irreversible damage during the coffee grinding process, mostly caused by impurities that may come into contact with the rolls, such as pieces of steel or other foreign objects. This information is valid for our current ICMELC Super 6.R line.

5) How many grinder rolls do the ICMELC grinders have?

The ICMELC Super 6.R line grinders have six (6) chilled rolls, and the desk grinders, for coffee shops, have four (4) rolls (not chilled).

6) What is the average delivery period after making a purchase order?

Our deliveries are made within 45, 60 or 90 days – please confirm your delivery date when making your order.

7) How do the warranty and technical support provided by ICMELC work?

Warranty on the ICMELC Super line is of two (2) years, except for parts that aren’t produced by us, such as engines, bearings and electronic components, except in the case that ICMELC finds any of these items to have come defective from the factory; technical support is complete, including during the post-sale period. Equipment installation is done free of charge, as well as servicing during the warranted period, ON such occasions, only transportation costs and hotel expenses for our technicians have to be accounted for by our clients.

8) Besides grinders and granulators, what other equipment is made by ICMELC?

We make semi-automatic vacuum sealers, package formatting compactors, different-size silos for several applications, self-cleaning rotary sifters, augers for roasted ground coffee, such as vertical or 45° elevators and horizontal conveyors, homogenizers and densifiers.

9) What countries have purchased ICMELC equipment?

South America: Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Uruguay, Peru;
Central America: Guatemala;
North America: Mexico;
Asia: Singapore, Syria, Israel, Indonesia; among others.

10) Is the grinder capable of grinding at different granulometries?

The grinder features an extremely reliable, stable and efficient system for adjusting granulometry. The ICMELC grinder adjustments are made by complementing or removing adjustment blades, (0.10 mm and 1.00 mm wide blades, appropriately combined), in combination with rigid attachment mechanisms. This way, the grinder is capable of grinding to different standards through simple readjustments, obtaining American and European standard granulometries, extra-fine Brazilian standard grinds, or Turkish coffee standards, after substituting the Standard grinder roll with the Special model.

11) What are the main advantages of the roll grinding system?

As far as quality is concerned, this is the system which best preserves the aromas and oils present in coffee, since it makes for less friction, keeping the coffee’s temperature low through the entire grinding process. Helped by the roll refrigeration system, the ICMELC grind produces better extraction of soluble solids, resulting in more efficiency and improved flavors. As far as the savings obtained by using the ICMELC system, we we’d like to highlight the 8% improvement brought on by higher density of the ground coffee, less breakage during production, high productivity, decreased power usage and low maintenance costs.

12) Does the roll refrigeration system also cool down the coffee?

No, the chilled rolls (liquid cooled) are designed to keep the temperatures of the rolls low and constant (controlled) through the entire working period, through calorie exchange, allowing for the ground coffee not to be heated, avoiding any effects this would have ion the roasting point.
